Fourth JNPT box tender
The Indian port of JNPT is to issue a tender in respect of its proposed fourth container terminal by the end of the current year. Expressions of interest have already been received.
The terminal will be developed on a build-operate-transfer basis and should be operational by 2012. Because of space constraints, this is likely to be the last box terminal built at the port. In 2006, JNPT handled 3m teu, a rise of 19.3% over the previous year. For the current fiscal year, box throughput is up 21.42%.
