IRANIAN DEAL FOR ALPS
Ironically, while PSA Corp is backing out of India – see preceding story – a consortium of Indian companies has taken their expertise overseas and signed a deal to set up a container terminal at the Iranian port of Chabahar.
The Tecon Suape terminal reported profits for the first time with these following on from a significant increase in cargo throughput and positive management initiatives on the part of ICTSI to introduce more efficient operational procedures and working practices.
The project, led by Chennai-based Ashok Leyland Project Services (ALPS), is part of a $500m project signed between the Iranian Roads and Transport Ministry and ALPS to connect Chabahar with Afghanistan. Initial works are expected to start on the port project by the year-end and be completed by mid-2007.
