K-Line hybrid cranes mark Japan first
K-Line group company, the Daito Corporation, has ordered three hybrid cranes for Ohi Terminal in Tokyo and Honmoku Terminal in Yokohama.
The new design, developed by TCM Corporation and Mitsui, will reduce fuel consumption thanks to the use of regenerative electric motors.
The first crane will be delivered to Honmoku in August and the other two to Ohi in November. These will be the first hybrid units to be deployed in any Japanese ports. Fuel consumption will be halved, while gas emissions will decrease by 40%-50%,and overall noise levels will also drop. Should these three prototypes proves successful,then two more will be acquired by Ohi Terminal and another by Honmoku terminal in 2008.
