Kalibaru construction cost soars

The initial cost of building a new port at North Kalibaru in Indonesia has soared by 55% from $1.1bn to $1.9bn.

However, state port operator Pelindo II, which has assumed responsibility for the project following the abandonment of a tender process involving five bidders, says this is because it is planning to build three container terminals with a capacity to handle 4.5m teu, whereas the government had projected a single box terminal capable of handling 1.9m teu.
