Kuantan to help develop China trade

In Malaysia, Kuantan on the country’s east coast is being developed with a special emphasis on China trade, which will see the port expanded to become a deepwater facility by next year, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong said.

The new port will be able to accommodate capesize vessels and post-panamax container ships of up to 200,000 dwt and be able to handle 52m tonnes of bulk and container cargo, Minister Liow said.

Also helping, BASF and Petronas Chemicals Group will build a new world-scale production plant at Kuantan. Work is expected to commence in the second quarter of this year, national news agency Bernama said.
