Macquarie invests in Busan
Macquarie Korea Infrastructure Fund (MKIF) is to invest $277m in Busan New Port Container Terminal – the concession company with the right to develop, operate and maintain the Busan New Port Phase 2-3 in Korea.
The Japan Bank for International Cooperation – JBIC – has signed a loan agreement for $235m with the Kenya Ports Authority for the development of Mombasa Port. The Port of Mombasa is a premier natural seaport, and the only international port in Kenya.
The loan will also be used for an access road, procurement of port handling equipment and consulting services.
The project is expected to facilitate trade and economic development in Kenya as the port serves as a hub for freight shipment to neighbouring countries such as Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.
