MUMBAI
Hutchison Port Holdings and Evergreen Marine Corporation have been left disappointed as Indias internal security committee rejected their right to bid for a US$270m offshore container terminal at Mumbai. Indian intelligence authorities are apparently unhappy about the increasing presence in the country of businesses with Chinese connections.
These include NYK, MOL, CMA CGM, PSA, HPH, Evergreen, Container Corporation of India, Larsen & Toubro and Gammon India. A contract is expected to be awarded in September or October.
Both companies have encountered such difficulties before.
