New container terminal for Qingdao

A greenfield site in Qingdao is soon to see the development of a new container terminal for DP World. The port operator has signed an agreement with the Qingdao government to build a 1,320 metre quay with 2m TEU capacity. Work is due to begin immediately with a completion date of 2008/9.

These include NYK, MOL, CMA CGM, PSA, HPH, Evergreen, Container Corporation of India, Larsen & Toubro and Gammon India. A contract is expected to be awarded in September or October.

Qingdao homes China’s third largest container port handling more than 6m TEUs a year. DP World is also currently involved in the development of Pusan Newport in South Korea with a new 9-berth facility due to be completed next year. This will have a 5.5m TEU capacity.
