Philippines Customs to drive port improvements

Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon told the media that one of the proposals is to develop and improve port facilities for better supervision of importations and transhipments.

Mr Faeldon added that his office is now working with engineers and developers to come up with a conceptual framework for facilities at the Port of Manila and Manila International Container Port.

This includes facilities to help make the disposal or condemnation of decaying commodities easier, he said.

Such facilities will also help the country become a trading hub which can cater to shipments from all over the world, and substantially contribute to the economy of the Philippines, according to Mr Faeldon.

The Bureau of Customs will also strengthen border security patrol as part of its immediate plans for 2017.
