Portek traffic hits new record
Singapore based terminal operator, Portek International’s container throughput has hit a new record, exceeding the 1m teu mark.
Portek’s container and multipurpose terminals saw a global increase of 10% during its fiscal year ended 31 March 2013. The increase was driven by growth in Bejaia Mediterranean Terminal SPA in Algeria which saw a sizable 20% rise from 200,000 to around 240,000 teu.
Other terminals under the company’s management also achieved creditable performances with high single digit percentage increases in throughput.
Takao Omori, CEO, Portek, said: “We are very pleased with having broken through the one million teu mark. With the addition of our latest acquisition, Riga Universal Terminal, into our portfolio of ports in April this year, we are marching steadily towards becoming a more significant player in the global port industry.”
Portek currently operates and manages three terminals in Indonesia, two in Gabon, one in Algeria, one in Malta, one in Latvia and an inland cargo handling and storage facility in Rwanda.
