PPA expanding with French cash
Philippines Port Authority (PPA) is to receive a loan of ¢ 170m ($239m) from the French government by the end of August. This will help fund six new port projects. Originally, finance was to have come from Spain, although a deal with the Spanish government eventually fell through.
It will be up to the government to decide which projects will receive funding, although the PPA has submitted a list of 66 possible new ports and a further 44 where improvements are needed to existing infrastructure. The aim is to build relatively cheap, modular ports, which can be implemented quickly.
