Rail wagons to ease congestion

(ICTSI), Naha International Container Terminal, Inc. (NICTI) to operate a container terminal in Naha City, Okinawa.

Kenya Ports Authority is to place an order for 400 railway wagon flats as a means of easing congestion at the port of Mombasa. 200 will be purchased outright and the rest leased. At present, the existing rail service linking the port with Kampala uses a dedicated fleet of 350 wagon flats although this invariably means that anything up to 700 containers can still remain awaiting transit at any one time. Neither Kenya Railway nor Uganda Railways is willing to invest in new wagons because of the threat of privatisation of the service.
