Saigon favours electric avenue
Vietnam’ s Saigon Newport Company (SNP) has plumped for ten Kalmar Industries E-One type rubber-tyred gantry (RTGs) cranes, underlining the increasing demand for environmentally sensitive handling machines.
Destined for its Tan Cang-Cat Lai container terminal near Ho Chi Minh City, the all-electric 6+1 wide and 1-over-5 high RTGs will be delivered by May 2008.
Vu Kim Khanh, deputy general director of SNP, said:“The investment in modern handling equipment with innovative design and low-maintenance features like Kalmar’s E-One RTG assures us that the Tan Cang-Cat Lai terminal will achieve its productivity goals in line with import/export container volumes, which are projected to increase by approximately 30% this year.”
The Tan Cang-Cat Lai facility is one of the country’s biggest and most modern container terminals. In 2006, it handled 1.45m teu and is expected to handle 1.7m teu in 2007.
