Shanghai and Ningbo in merger talks
The Chinese ports of Shanghai and Ningbo are reported to be in negotiations on a possible merger sometime in the near future.
Although details are scarce and unconfirmed, it is believed that resource duplication and fierce competition between the two could be undermining their viability at a time when business is in obvious decline. Previously, competition between Shanghai’s Yanngshan and Ningbo-Zhoushan ports was regarded as healthy as exports rocketed.
