Shanghai still number one
Shanghai has remained the worlds leading port for the third successive year. In 2007, it handled 560m tonnes, up 4.2% over the previous year. Container throughput, at 26.1 5m teu, represented an increase of 20.4%.
In related news, Japanese shipping line NYK has reputedly approached Shanghai International Port with a view to investing in Phase 3B of the Da Xiao Yang Shan container terminal, located 34 kilometres southwest of Shanghai.
