Singapore unveils interconnectivity initiatives

Dubbed ‘Smart Port’, the initiatives range from the installation of 4G broadband access in Singapore port waters for the maritime community and for vessels in Singapore port waters, free wi-fi services at MPA-managed terminals for members of the public, and the launch of the myMaritime@SG mobile app to allow port users access to the latest information on ship arrivals and departures, port and marine notices, and tidal information, among other services.

MPA chief executive Andrew Tan said: “The maritime sector is undergoing significant transformation with smarter ships, just-in-time logistics and more intelligent ports being built.
“We envision a more inter-connected port with high-speed internet, extensive use of data analytics and innovative mobile solutions to enhance our port’s overall competitiveness. This will benefit all users at the Port of Singapore.”

In collaboration with Singapore Shipping Association, the MPA has also issue a call-for-proposals to invite the maritime community and solution providers to develop innovative business-to-business apps to enhance maritime logistics operations, ship-to-shore communications, and remote monitoring of marine operations from shore. A pot of S$2m has been set aside to co-fund projects approved under this initiative.
