Transit port for landlocked Laos to be built in central Vietnam
A transit port reserved for Laos commodities will be built this yearat the Vung Ang Port in the central Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh.
The project will have a total investment of $200m with the Vietnamese side contributing 80% and the Lao side, 20%.
The project is expected to be carried out in the first quarter of next year.
Lao exporters already have a decent Vietnamese port in Binh Dinh province that they use to move their goods worldwide.
Quy Nhon Port is a gateway for sources of cargo from southern Laos (via Bo Y border gate in Kon Tum Province) and northeastern Cambodia (via Duc Co border gate in Gia Lai Province), and Quy Nhon plans to turn itself into part of the East-West Economic Corridor which runs from central Vietnam to Laos, Thailand and Myanmar.
