Update: Typhoon stops berthing at Ningbo

A very large typhoon, Typhoon Muifa, has continued to gain strength and is likely to make landfall near Qingdao.

Typhoon Muifa path prediction as of Friday 15.00 GMT

“Vessels are no longer able to berth at Ningbo. Operations at Zhoushan and other ports have been partially halted. Operations may be fully suspended over the weekend,” warns Jeffrey Landsberg of Commodore Research & Consultancy.

“As of now, the typhoon is expected to approach the ports of Taizhou, Shanghai, and Zhoushan early Sunday morning and then turn north before making landfall close to the port of Qingdao,” he adds.

The storm is causing waves to swell to as much as 12 metres and will affect coastal trade.
