Customised portal cranes
Liebherr and Italian steel company Acciaierie d’Italia have closed a deal for the supply of four large portal cranes for handling raw materials for steel production at the commercial port of Taranto, Italy.
Acciaierie d’Italia has ordered the LPS 800, a customised portal version of the LHM 800 mobile harbour crane. It is the largest portal crane in the Liebherr portfolio, operating solely on electric power and capable of shifting 2,000 tonnes per hour.
“Our unique technical solutions around this project made the difference,” said Andreas Müller, Liebherr sales director for mobile harbour cranes.
“These four gigantic portal cranes run 100 per cent electrically and thus enable emission-free material handling,” he added.
Sustainable features
The LPS 800 has a four-rope configuration with a lifting capacity of up to 144 tonnes. All machines are equipped exclusively with an e-drive, ensuring emissions-free running.
The cranes are also equipped with the Pactronic hybrid power booster, an additional pressure storage that accumulates sink energy or excess energy from the electric drive and returns it to the closed hydraulic circuit in the form of pressure when required.
As part of the deal, Liebherr will be supplying training to Acciaierie d’Italia’s crane operators and technical staff using its LiSIM simulator.
