Fresh plan ripens for Liverpool
The UKsPort of Liverpool has announced plans to constructa £ 6m fresh produce terminal to reduce unnecessary truck movements andconsequently carbon emissions.
Liverpool Produce Terminal (LPT) is to be sited alongside the existing Royal Seaforth Container Terminal and the site of the port’s planned £100+ million post-panamax River Container Terminal.
Liverpool claims that the LPT will offer a “cost effective all-water alternative to the 300 trucks arriving in Britain with fruit from Spain every day”.
Operated by Go-Associates, logistics operators Cold Move, and International Controlled Atmosphere Limited, the 90,000 sq ft cool store will be equipped with four individually controlled chambers with a temperature range of -5°C to +14°C and be able to accommodate produce four pallets high.
The cool store will have the capability to discharge a 4,000 pallet ship in 24 hours from an adjacent quay.
