Kalmar pioneers common automation architecture

Kalmar Key offers a common system architecture for creating end-to end, customised automation platforms using Kalmar Terminal Logistics System (TLS) as a basis.

The company says the goal of the new product is to enable a joint ecosystem for continuous terminal industry business development.

Kalmar’s opening of application interfaces to the Kalmar TLS means that terminal operators can customise automation deployments and use third-party developers to provide offerings that are interoperable with their automation platforms.

Customers can therefore easily integrate any new system and brand of equipment into their automation systems.

The product also offers a holistic view of operations by aggregating data from multiple sources into a single interface.

Speaking about the new system, Antti Kaunonen, Kalmar’s president, said: “Until now, most terminal automation systems have been based on extensive integration of various subsystems and solutions, and each deployment has been more or less unique.

“Now we have a common open platform to build on, allowing us to adopt a systemic approach in designing terminal automation.”
