Kalmar plants stake in Mexican turf
Kalmar has acknowledged the growing importance of Mexico to its orderbook by establishing a newsales office in the Americas.
Sited in Guadalajara – Mexico’s second-largest city – the sales and service centre will initially house just a handful of service technicians and parts specialists, but resources will grow as Mexico’s port and heavy industry business develops.
“In recent years, Mexico has been subject to a variety of foreign investment projects, particularly in the ports sector. With this development and the consistently positive outlook on the economy, Kalmar remains steadfast in its strategy of shifting its sales and service support closer to its customers’ operating environments,” commented Kalmar president, Pekka Vauramo.
Gaston Chipy, previously a Kalmar sales director in South America, has been named as the managing director of the Guadalajara-based sales company.
In related news, International Container Terminals Services Inc has bought three eight-high Kalmar side lifters and five Ottawa-Kalmar prime movers for its flagship, Manila International Container Terminal.
Specifically built for handling empty containers, the side lifters will enable the stacking of empty containers to a maximum of 7-high, leading to a predicted 10%-15% increase in yard capacity.
