Konecranes chalk up RTG orders
The Port of Houston Authority has placed a repeat order for seven Konecrane RTGs worth over $10m with delivery due in April 2005. ” They will help us provide even faster turnaround for container vessels visiting the Barbour’ s Cut terminal, ” says Houston’ s executive director Tom Kornegay. The cranes will be manufactured and erected in Europe and transported by sea.
“Konecranes RTGs have proven their success in terms of environmental considerations combined with high performance capacity and fast delivery. These have been real strengths in winning recent orders”, says Tuomas Saastamoinen, sales manager, container handling at Konecranes. “Providing local support for the RTGs through our harbour crane service experts from KCI Koneports has also become a competitive asset for us.”
The RTGs have a lifting height of 50 feet and a span of 74 feet (one-over-four containers high and six-plustruck lane wide). The cranes are prepared for easy height increase and span adjustment to later fit the needs at the Bayport terminal. Handling efficiency is achieved by high hoist speed and with modern features such as sway prevention and fine positioning systems. Lower emissions will be achieved by utilising stateof-the-art power engine and exhaust gas handling technology. Sophisticated silencers will be installed for lower noise levels.
Over 200 Konecranes new generation RTGs have been delivered worldwide and 100 of these are in operation along the US East and Gulf Coasts.
Other recent orders have come from the US West Coast and Spain.
