LNG power is a shore thing
Mitsui OSK Lines has successfully tested a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled shore power supply system on the containership MOL Enterprise.
The test involved connecting an on-shore LNG generator to the power cable for the bow thruster motor.
Using LNG generators substantially reduce emissions of pollutants such as NOx and SOx, compared with using the ships own generators which operate on heavy fuel oil. During the test, only two of the ship’s four onboard generators were in use.
