LoranTrack claims first to achieve seamless in-transit visibility
Lorantec Systems says it has proved its unmatched claim to enable tracking of Anything, Virtually Anywhere, Anytime by continuously tracking a container shipped by Matson Navigation from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agencys Defense Distribution Centre in Tracy, California to Honolulu port.
“The feat marks the first time that a container has been successfully tracked intransit without any ‘blackouts’ associated with limited satellite or cellular network coverage, line-of-sight obstructions or reliance upon costly ground-based infrastructure, ” boasts ceo Vaibhav Malawade. The container was even tracked consistently when positioned in the centre of the bottom tier in a 9W x 5H container yard stack.
Basic service is priced at $5 per month to receive twice daily updates for each asset tracked. “Making a costeffective solution was essential, ” declares Malawade.
“We optimized our solution to address the previously unresolved challenges inherent to containerised transportation. This included addressing the challenge of conserving battery power to sustain multi-year operation, ensuring uninterrupted tracking around the globe and achieving the most efficient data communication possible to reduce the ongoing cost of operation.”
The device may be equipped with an array of optional sensors that can continuously monitor the integrity of the cargo, including shock/vibration, temperature, humidity “and virtually any other characteristic important to the customer. The LoranTrack device can also be equipped with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader to scan goods embedded with RFID tags and automatically update the shipment manifest.”
