Savi releases new RFID tag

Global cargo container shipments now can be monitored automatically in especially harsh environments with the latest Savi Technology active RFID tags – the ST-656, a lowprofile, highly durable container tag option with a rich variety of functions, including an audio beeper, to help defence and commercial organisations better locate and manage their container shipments.

Until now the ideas have centred on using AIS and Voyage Data Recorders for identifying a ship and where it has been. As neither system was designed for security purposes they are seen as unsuitable.

The ISO container door tag comes in a new U-shaped form that clamps tightly onto the left door of the container enabling the RFID electronics to be protected on the inside of the container while a low-profile plate on the outside contains an antenna that communicates with fixed or mobile reader networks. The flat external plate also contains a beeper for audio alerts of the tag’s location and status.
