SCPA returns to Konecranes for RTGs

The cranes, which were ordered by the facilities’ South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) and are to be delivered from next year to 2020, mark the authority’s biggest RTG order with Konecranes since 1998.

A total of 24 of the cranes will go to the Wando Welch Terminal to support operation modernisation plans and boost container yard capacity, while Inland Port Greer will receive two of the RTGs to support its continuing volume increase.

When the 26 cranes are operational, the SCPA will operate a fleet of 81 Konecranes RTGs.

The RTGs on order have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes while stacking one-over-five containers high and six-plus-truck-lane wide.

They will come with Konecranes’ Active Load Control -which removes container sway to boost container handling performance – and the Auto-steering and Truck Lift Prevention features, as well as built-in readiness for special features like Stack Collision Prevention and Auto-truck Guiding.

Commenting on the order, Stevenson E. Kemp, Jr., PE senior director for terminal strategy at SCPA, said: “We continue to return to Konecranes as their RTGs have proven to be best in class for their quality construction, operating characteristics and long-term serviceability.”
