Vessel inspection app wins safety award

At the first ‘live’ awards ceremony for four years, held in London on 23 February, APMT and fellow finalists Exis Technologies and Intermodal Telematics gave presentations of their new technologies.

The finalists were whittled down from twenty entrants across 13 countries covering diverse fields such as digitalisation processes, learning and predictive data application and safer physical operations and equipment.

Speaking of APMT’s win, Jack Craig, chief operations officer at APM Terminals, said the company was delighted with the app, designed in collaboration with Maersk.

“The app provides a standardised digital platform for terminals to carry out vessel inspections, highlighting potential critical risk,” he said. “It underpins our continuous focus on safety throughout our operations and is a great example of how we can smartly deploy technology to be even better at this.”

Exis Technologies was commended for its Hazcheck Detect innovation which screens cargo and helps prevent misdeclared or undeclared cargo being accepted or rebooked on alternate carriers. Intermodal Telematics was similarly praised for its tank container temperature alert system.

“The awards have been, and remain, pivotal to our safety campaign,” said Peregrine Storrs-Fox, TT Club’s risk management director. “We are delighted that the award has continued to attract substantial interest around the globe and across the industry, again demonstrating a passion to enhance safety and dynamic action to make this reality.”
