Hyperloop container system trial

A port in Spain is to become the test bed for a new sustainable container movement system.

Zeleros will install a 100 metre prototype of its Sustainable Electric Freight-forwarder (SELF) at the Port of Sagunto. The hyperloop system consists of vehicles (or bogies) guided and propelled on rails by a fully-electric linear motor. This technology has been developed together with the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas.

“We use the linear engine of the hyperloop system to apply it to the movement of goods within the port context,” said David Pistoni, chief executive of Zeleros. “Thanks to this we can validate and improve these technologies, as we are going to place a 100-metre pilot in the port of Sagunto that allows us to move these containers within what would be port logistics”.

The construction of the track will begin at the end of July with the expectation the trials will begin at the end of the year or the beginning of the next. It will allow Zeleros to carry out two types of tests – one for speed and the other for weight and safety.

“This project has two things that are basic to the Port of Valencia, innovation and sustainability,” said Aurelio Martínez, president of Valenciaport. “If we are immersed in such an ambitious objective as reaching 2030 with energy balance, we must support all the initiatives that lead to that, and this is one of them.”
