Newport regeneration

Since the beginning of the year, ABP has around 600 acres of land available to the market as part of its ongoing focus on manufacturing at ports, releasing around 6 million sq ft of development opportunities for manufacturing, logistics and renewable energy sectors.

It now turns its sights on Newport, opening up the 73 acre Atlantic and 22 acre West Way Road sites for development. “These development sites are ideally suited for port-centric manufacturing and logistics uses,” said Helen Thomas, ABP’s head of property for Wales & Short Sea Ports.

“At a time when energy costs are surging, our on-site power generation and access to green energy supplies means we can provide effective and economical power solutions for our occupiers.”

The Port of Newport handles more than £1bn of trade annually with multi-modal freight facilities, deep-sea access and direct links to the national rail and motorway network.

Development is already under way at the port with the near completion of a new plasterboard manufacturing plant operated by Knauf. The plant will run on green power generated by renewable sources, including wind and solar technologies and create more than 50 local jobs.
