Santos to have Latin Americas first MP terminal
Construction of Embraport, which is being billed as Latin Americas first multi-purpose terminal, is due to commence later this year following clearance from Brazils environmental protection agency. Located in the port of Santos, it will be able to handle liquid and solid bulk, containers and vehicles.
Projections put forward by promoter in the Coimex group suggest it will be handling 8 m tonnes a year once up and running. Investment totalling US$161.35m will be required.
Among the main products that the terminal will handle are soya, sugar, alcohol, fuel, frozen meat, containers and cars. In order to be able to do this the terminal will have to expand over an area of 803,000 sq metres. It will have 850 metres of quay line capable of simultaneously accommodating eight vessels.
Two berths will accommodate bulk solids, two for liquid bulk carriers and the other four for general cargo vessels.
