Dual duel for union

New Zealands Maritime Union has recently pursued strong industrial action in ongoing disputes with both the Ports of Auckland and the Port of Napier.

The former entails a collective employment negotiation breakdown, with neither party able to find a resolution despite months’ of trying and the involvement of two independent mediators.

The latter follows the Napier port opting to replace incumbent stevedore, Hawke’s Bay Stevedoring Services, with International Stevedoring Operations (ISO).

The Maritime Union appears particularly incensed about ISO being aligned to the Amalgamated Stevedores Union.
