Legislation clears Melbourne for dredging

The Victorian Government has moved to clear a legislative path for dredging to begin in the Port of Melbourne.

It has introduced legislation to clarify the way ports manage dredged material, to restructure the way ports collect fees and to offer new measures for exclusion zones to keep out environmental protesters.The state government wants the legislation to pass in parliament before the end of the year to allow dredging to begin early next year.
