LPC OPENS TRUCK KIOSKS
Time-savings of up to 66% are expected from new IT-equipped truck ” kiosks” Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC) has introduced to its container terminal reception area.
Whereas all drivers previously had to be manually processed by the port’s two tally clerks, now access can be achieved by the simple swipe of a driver’s licence and completion of touch-screen entries.
As well as being significantly quicker than the manual alternative, the kiosks are expected to alleviate truck queuing issues which previously developed each time a driver ahead had a problem with the processing of their work request. The kiosks have also increased processing capacity, by freeing up the two existing tally clerks to focus on more demanding transactions.
