LPC opens vehicle terminal
New Zealands Lyttelton Port of Christchurch has opened a fully-sealed and secure facility to handle an import vehicle trade which has grown 31% over five years to an annual 53,450 units.
Located at the port’s inner harbour area, the development has also freed land at Cashin Quay for its burgeoning coal and container throughput.
Able to cater for 350 units, the new terminal should alleviate congestion caused by half its monthly vehicle throughput arriving over five consecutive days.
Additional planned development will ultimately see the terminal’s capacity increase to 1,500 vehicles.
