Port Otagos appointment of a science, engineering and logistics team to investigate its plan to become the only South Island deep-water container port has impressed the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation.
With over-investment existing in elements of the local ports industry, the federation has praised the port’s decision to have the “think-tank” spend six month’s reviewing the plan’s viability.
Meanwhile, Port Otago has purchased a two-hectare block of land in nearby Sawyers Bay for future use in warehousing, container storage and back-up operations.
