PrimePort flies regional port flags

PrimePort Timaru chairperson Sid McAuley hassaid regional ports need increased weighting in Government decisions on New Zealandsshipping future.

He said regional ports have land base and cargo proximity advantages to counter congestion and ensure efficient freight movement.

Meanwhile, the 77,000 teu throughput achieved by PrimePort this financial year has broken its previous best set last year by 30%.

The port also returned an after-tax profit of NZ$5.5m ($4.2m) on NZ$19.9m ($15.1m) revenue (a one-off property sale last year distorted relevant comparisons).
