Amsterdam latest to offer ‘direct connections’

The technology shows all available connections from ports, allowing shippers and freight forwarders to plan their routes effectively and sustainably.

Amsterdam joins European ports Antwerp-Bruges, Rotterdam, DeltaPort Niederrhein, DuisPort, JadeWeserPort and the Port of Sohar in Oman who have already signed up to the service which was launched in 2021.

“We are delighted to join Routescanner, as it is a great platform that offers customers full transparency on available intermodal connections (shortsea, barge, rail) to and from the port of Amsterdam, including CO2 emissions on the respective routes,” said Maurice Delattre, area manager at the Port of Amsterdam.

Under the slogan ‘report, rethink, reduce’, the Routescanner platform shows not only the fastest container routes, but also the most sustainable ones based on CO2 emissions. These calculations are accredited by the Global Logistics Emission Council.

Every day, it processes more than 700,000 commercial sailing and driving schedules with a network which includes more than 4,500 terminals worldwide. Routescanner now has more than 175 affiliated partners including most deepsea, barge, rail and shortsea operators in Europe.
