Ceuta first Med port to mandate MFMs
The Port Authority of Ceuta is modernising the marine fuel supply industry by becoming the first Mediterranean port to mandate the use of internationally certified and calibrated mass flow meters (MFMs) for marine fuel supply by barge.
With effect from February 2025, this new requirement aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in bunkering operations.
“This milestone represents a significant progress in our commitment to innovation, sustainability and operational efficiency,” said the Port Authority of Ceuta.
“By adopting MFM technology, we are reinforcing our position as a leading Mediterranean port and ensuring a high-quality, transparent service for all our clients.”
MFMs offer highly precise fuel measurements, significantly reducing the margin of error and helping to resolve disputes between fuel suppliers and shipowners regarding the quantity of fuel delivered. The increased accuracy also improves traceability and reliability in the bunkering process.
The implementation of MFMs will streamline operations by reducing waiting times, boosting productivity and enhancing overall efficiency.
This move reflects the Port of Ceuta’s ongoing commitment to the digitalisation and modernisation of the bunker sector, responding to global market demands and contributing to the sustainability of the maritime transport industry.
