Colombian terminal installs 4.9G network

The high bandwidth, low latency system at the Sociedad Portuaria Puerto Bahía terminal in the Bay of Cartagena is provided by Nokia and powered by Claro Colombia and will improve network reliability across the terminal, connecting workers, equipment, vehicles and cargo.

Rodrigo Torras, President of Puerto Bahía, said that innovation was at the ‘heart of Puerto Bahía’. “Our aim as a company is to implement technological tools that help us position ourselves as a Smart Port 4.0,” he said.

Sociedad Portuaria Puerto Bahía terminal handles various types of cargo, mainly general and bulk cargo and hydrocarbons, and is the largest private hydrocarbon terminal in Colombia. It also handles 95% of the Caribbean coast RoRo market and more than 50% of the Colombian RoRo market.

The implementation will begin in the hydrocarbons terminal area with one particularly innovative use case the tracking of up to 20,000 vehicles at peak capacity. Nokia Digital Automation Cloud will also provide connections between terminal operating systems and personnel, and between cranes in docks and yards.
