Durres growth continues

It signals yet another step in the container terminal’s development and growth experienced in recent years while it has been under the stewardship of terminal operator Mariner Adriatic (part of Hili Company). 

Following a 38% increase in volumes handled in 2023, Durres Container Terminal has continued to rapidly grow its volumes with container handling increasing by 16% year on year over the first 8 months of 2024.

This reflects the economic growth of Albania’s economy, along with increasing transit cargo to and from Kosovo.

All this has been facilitated by significant improvements in the overall operating performance of the container terminal since the introduction of the new terminal operator in 2021.

Mariner Adriatic puts these improvements down to a holistic, continuous improvement programme involving all aspects of the terminal operation, from human resource training and IT to equipment and maintenance programmes.

The terminal operator emphasises its focus on the development and implementation of various IT systems, starting with the Navis N4Saas terminal operating system, where Durres Container Terminal was the first container terminal globally to implement this solution, followed by various other systems including a Customer Access Portal providing real time information to shipping lines and inland transport service providers, and a Pre-Booking System designed to speed up the service for truckers visiting the terminal. 

Mariner Adriatic has also invested in yard equipment to support the growing volumes, with a Konecranes reach stacker and Terberg terminal tractors delivered most recently.
