Johor Port showcases new cranes
Johor Port Berhad, a member of the MMC Group, has boosted its container handling capacity with the arrival of two new Post Panamax Container Quay Cranes, manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co.
The RM71.2 million (around €14 million) investment marks a significant step in the port’s ongoing modernisation and expansion strategy.
Designed to handle Post Panamax vessels, the new cranes are built to improve vessel turnaround times, enhance cargo handling efficiency and support growing container volumes at Johor Port’s terminal. The cranes were delivered on 6 September and are currently undergoing a 45-day site acceptance test.
“The arrival of these two new quay cranes reflects Johor Port’s long-term vision of investing in modern infrastructure to support the evolving needs of global trade,” said Md Derick Basir, chief executive of Johor Port.
“We will also be procuring two more quay cranes by 2027, alongside four new level luffing cranes purchased earlier this year.”
Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, chair of Johor Port, added, “This investment is part of our five-year CAPEX enhancement plan and reinforces Johor Port’s position as Malaysia’s southern gateway.
“It also supports the Johor-Singapore special economic zone by attracting new trade and investment.”
Despite ongoing crane removal activities in August 2025, Johor Port achieved a record monthly throughput of 103,159 teu, surpassing its previous high.
The port now operates a fleet of nine quay cranes, ready to meet increasing regional trade demands.
