PD Ports invests in tipper trucks

The new STAS Agrostar trailers, designed for handling complex bulk materials, were delivered alongside five Volvo trucks this summer, showcasing the company’s commitment to portcentric logistics.

“Bulk products are a huge part of our business at Tees Dock but until now we haven’t had an inhouse transport service for free-flowing powder or grain,” said Chris Poole, PD Ports transport manager (bulks).

“Now we can offer customers the option of a service that sees us handle their product from quay to end destination, making it more efficient and cost effective.”

In addition to the new fleet, PD Ports has employed 10 new drivers and provided further training for existing staff to enhance operational efficiency.

The STAS trailers are equipped with advanced safety features, including a pneumatic automatic tailgate operated from inside the cab, preventing unloading damage.

Each trailer also features a wear-resistant floor and underbody vibrators to ensure product flow, along with a PM1155 weighing system for precise load management.

This investment is part of a larger upgrade at Tees Dock’s bulks quay, including a £9m outlay on cranes, hoppers, and shovels, leading to improved vessel discharge times.

PD Ports has also secured TASCC accreditation, reinforcing its commitment to food and feed safety standards, with all drivers undergoing product and TASCC training.
