Port innovation network welcomes South America

The Port Innovators Network (PIN) was established in October 2023 by the Port of Hamburg (homePORT), the Port of Halifax (The PIER) and the Port of Valencia (Opentop) to foster innovation in ports around the world.

With the joining of Cubo Maritime & Port, Brazil, PIN is now active across three continents.

“This is an iconic moment for PIN, with the first expansion of the network and starting with a leading innovation hub in South America,” said Jonas Mendes Constante of PIN.

“We are ready to start collaborating with Cubo Maritime & Port and our port innovation communities to build the next generation of port innovation.”

Based in Sao Paulo, Cubo Maritime & Port is the largest innovation hub in the maritime and port sector in Latin America.

With Cubo Maritime & Port as an associate member, both Cubo and the other PIN members will now benefit from a larger port innovation community, connecting startups, corporations and entrepreneurs and partners.

Eduardo Valença, chief transformation officer at port and logistic operator, Wilson Sons, said this was a ‘move forward’. “We want to support the port industry, understand the situation from north to south, our digital maturity and what can be improved,” he said.

“And thus further support the implementation of the innovation agenda through collaborations with startups and creating targeted port facilities. The cooperation with PIN will further accelerate this process, with the exchange of global experiences in port innovation.”
