Tianjin reaps benefits from tyre crane automation
The Port of Tianjin is experiencing a significant boost in operational efficiency following installation of the Sany Marine’s H-Move2.0 intelligent system.
By automating tyre crane operations, the port has successfully increased crane efficiency to 20 moves per hour, surpassing the traditional manual operation rate of 15 to 16 cycles.
“There is still potential for upgrading our carrier tools and related equipment, through which we can better utilise our resources and elevate the low-carbon and green development,” said Cheng Shidong, director of Urban Transportation Center, Institute of Comprehensive Transportation with the National Development and Reform Commission.
Advanced productivity
This advancement in port automation is helping enhance Tianjin’s overall productivity, allowing for faster container handling and reduced turnaround times, which in turn strengthens the port’s competitiveness.
In addition to efficiency gains, the integration of Sany’s system brings substantial improvements in safety and operational precision. The system’s incorporation of real-time anti-shaking and anti-twisting technology ensures smooth and secure crane operations, mitigating the risks associated with manual handling.
Furthermore, the use of digital twin technology allows for the prediction and simulation of container movements, optimising crane positioning and lowering operational errors.
Tianjin’s port operations also benefit from the system’s capacity to significantly reduce the need for manual labour, addressing labour shortages while maintaining high throughput levels.
With the ability to manage up to six rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) with a single operator, the system also lowers labour costs and enhances resource allocation.
