Yilport begins Croatia port operations

The takeover is part of the Yildirim Group’s acquisition of Petrokemija, the largest fertiliser plant in Croatia. Along with fertiliser, the most handled products at the port are wood and aluminium but Yilport plans to diversify services, turning Šibenik into a multi-purpose terminal.

Located 350 kilometres from Zagreb, the port currently has three berths at ten metres quay depth, and handles general cargo ships up to 50,000 tonnes. The port offers warehouses with conveyor systems, and handles 2,000 teu container vessels.

In the first phase of development, Yilport will revamp existing operations, installing a second mobile harbour crane and increasing storage capacity at the terminal. The terminal will be dredged from ten metres to 13 metres of draft to allow access for larger vessels up to Panamax size. After container operations start, a third mobile crane will be installed.

The second phase of the proposed business plan includes startup investments for RoRo and liquid cargo services. All in all, Yilport Holding is planning investments of €50 million in three phases.
