Corozal bid deadline pushed back

The change will affect only those companies already prequalified to design, build and operate the proposed container terminal at Corozal Oeste.

Initially, the deadline had been February 3, only to later be put back to February 17. The reason given for the delays is to allow those involved sufficient time to thoroughly analyse issues linked to various terms and conditions contained within the tender, which have been slightly modified.

Four companies are now vying for the contract: APM Terminals, Terminal Link, PSA International and Terminal Investment Limited. The 120ha concession will require investment of $650m in its first phase.

Meanwhile, legal action continues to try and prevent the port from being built. To date, both the Panama Ports Company (PPC) and residents associations from the Diablo neighbourhood have lodged 25 legal complaints against the ACP’s decision to go ahead with Corozal.

These actions have been directed both personally at the president of ACP, Roberto Roy, and also in the form of complaints against potential environmental neglect and other administrative problems connected with the project.
