Delays expected for Moín box terminal

The request is the result of an announcement by the terminal operator that it will not meet the agreed implementation schedule for the work as set out in the concession.

The minister, Carlos Villalta, said that he is awaiting a remedial plan from APM Terminals that will explain how problems will be overcome and why they are causing delays.

According to Mr Villalta, a group of inspectors linked to the National Concession Council have identified clear delays in meeting the construction schedule for the project.

APM Terminals conceded that “unexpected” occurrences have led to the delays, with managing director Kenneth Waugh alluding to unforeseen “adverse conditions”, which may result in a need to redraft the overall plan for the construction of the terminal.

Among the problems, he highlighted soil compaction, the behaviour of the breakwater and he fact that some piles had become tilted.

The company told Port Strategy: “Our engineers in the APM Terminals Terminal de Contenedores de Moín project are working out some of the technical aspects of the construction phase with our contractors.”
