Ecuador to appoint port regulator
The Association of Private Port Terminals in Ecuador (Asotep) is supporting government policy to introduce a new port regulator, believing it will strengthen the operations of all those involved in the sector as well as making life easier.
This new body will replace functions currently undertaken by the Navy for more than a century.
The initiative is also backed by the Ecuador Maritime Chamber, which stresses that the regulator will need to have political independence.
