On offer is a 22-year concession, with the possibility to extend this for a further 15 years. Total investment of US$951m will be required over the full 37 years. Overall development of the port will be divided into three phases, the first of which will last two years and see the government of Ecuador spend US$80m on expanding existing installations.

In Croatia, Rijeka Port Authority has issued a tender offering a 30-year concession to operate the under-construction Zagreb Pier Container Terminal, which will eventually have a 680m long quay and alongside draft of 20m. In the initial phase, which is due to come on line in the first half of 2017, there will be 400m of berthing line available and 150,000m² of yard, giving the facility a capacity of 400,000 teu.

In India, the Kerala state government is seeking a private partner to help develop the Vizinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport as part of a PPP. Construction of the US$811m facility will be undertaken as a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract, with phase one of the project to be operational within five years.
